MAP Musings: Music, Art and Poetry
Thank you for showing how music, literature, and art beautifully mirror one another.
In music, soft notes, such as pianissimo and pauses, create a mood of calm or reflection. Similarly, in poetry, soft sounds like “shhh” (as in Mary Howe's poem) or the use of ellipses slow down the pace and evoke quiet emotions. In painting, empty or negative spaces serve the same purpose as drawing the eye and creating a sense of stillness. All three forms evoke emotions.
Wondering how deeply connected the arts truly are! Even in dance, the measured foot movements, eyes, and other facial expressions convey different emotions and expressions.
Thank you for today's learning.

Let's Talk About Education
The book reading session focused on exploring the broader meaning and impact of education beyond traditional academic measures, with discussions centred on personal development, self-confidence, and the importance of collaborative learning environments. Sandeep and the group explored how education can empower individuals to understand themselves and their place in the world, emphasising the importance of emotional intelligence, spiritual insight, and moral development. The session concluded with plans for future reading sessions and discussions, highlighting the importance of connecting learning to real-life experiences and encouraging participants to continue learning through shared resources and ongoing dialogue.
Turning Direct Instruction on Its Head
Sandeep introduced the Teachers Academy Blog and discussed the concept of productive failure in learning, contrasting it with direct instruction and explaining its potential benefits for students' conceptual understanding and problem-solving abilities. He outlined the key elements of designing robust experiments to compare teaching methods and emphasised the importance of statistical significance and effect size in research findings. The session concluded with a discussion on the effectiveness of combining inquiry-based learning and direct instruction for deep learning, as well as the importance of foundational knowledge in fostering creativity and understanding.
My Good School, Sunday the 25th May 2025
This Sunday, we checked out the holiday schedules and recent media coverage of schools before transitioning into discussions about reading habits, book analysis, and animal behaviour. We explored themes of storytelling, dance, and the importance of timing in narratives, while also discussing the concept of growth mindset versus fixed mindset and its impact on learning and development. The final portion focused on compassion, empathy, and sympathy, with participants sharing stories and discussing how these qualities develop in children. Finally, we read a chapter from Dr Anupam Sibal's book, “Is Your Child Ready to Face the World?” in Hindi.
