ScooNews Global Ed-Fest 2025
Welcome to #SGEF2025! We are excited to come together under the theme “Purpose-Driven Education: Designing for Future Realities.” The mission of SGEF 2025 is to thoughtfully explore the essential objectives of school education and reimagine curricula that better align with the evolving needs of society and the professional world.
Since the inaugural edition in 2016, I have consistently attended SGEF, and it has been a wonderful experience. Ravi, the host and founder of Scoonews, is a valued member of our community, and we are all dedicated to supporting the cause of #HappyTeachers.
As this is our go-to Annual Conference in India, I am pleased to share that GSA invites you to join us as a community partner at the event. We see this as our GSA Annual Conference and would be thrilled to connect with all of you in Jaipur.
I look forward to packing up and heading to Jaipur – see you on 31st July 2025! Please let us know if you can make it, and we'll be happy to meet you.
Best wishes
Sandeep Dutt, Editor and Founder Good Schools Alliance

Saturday Masterclass
Sandeep recently led an inspiring Masterclass on Productive Failure, emphasising the importance of Awareness. The session delved into essential concepts such as Activation, Awareness, and the transformative power of experiencing productive failure. We explored thought-provoking philosophical ideas, including Socrates' method of questioning, and discussed how facing obstacles is a vital part of the learning journey. Sandeep highlighted that recognising our struggles and embracing our uncertainties can lead to profound inquiry and understanding.
We meet on Saturday evenings to read from the book Productive Failure: Unlocking Deeper Learning Through the Science of Failure by Dr Manu Kapur. Feel free to join us.
Brewing Knowledge Friday
Sandeep Dutt led a session on "Brewing Knowledge Fridays," focusing on the book "A Handbook of Child Learning" by Kamala B. Mukunda. The book emphasises the importance of understanding psychological principles in education, highlighting the mismatch between traditional school curricula and children's learning methods. Sandeep discussed the significance of reflection and curiosity in teaching, drawing parallels between teaching and learning. The session also included a Rumi story about The Angel of Death, prompting participants to reflect on their beliefs and experiences. Participants were encouraged to share their reflections on the book and story in a journal.
Books of The Week
Shattered Lands : Five Partitions and the Making of Modern Asia by Sam Dalrymple
Shattered Lands, for the first time, presents the whole story of how the Indian Empire was unmade. How a single, sprawling dominion became twelve modern nations. How maps were redrawn in boardrooms and on battlefields, by politicians in London and revolutionaries in Delhi, by kings in remote palaces and soldiers in trenches.
Its legacies include civil wars in Burma and Sri Lanka, ongoing insurgencies in Kashmir, Baluchistan, Northeast India, and the Rohingya genocide. It is a history of ambition and betrayal, of forgotten wars and unlikely alliances, of borders carved with ink and fire. And, above all, it is the story of how the map of modern Asia was made.
Sam Dalrymple's stunning narrative is based on deep archival research, previously untranslated private memoirs, and interviews in English, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi, Konyak, Arabic and Burmese. From portraits of the key political players to accounts of those swept up in these wars and mass migrations, Shattered Lands is vivid, compelling, thought-provoking history at its best
