We love books, pets and babies!
Our beloved Atom spent over 11 wonderful years with us, leaving behind a treasure trove of cherished memories! Just as books can fill our hearts with warmth, the love we shared with Atom fills our lives with joy. This week, as we reflect on what brings us together, it's time to share the love that many of us hold dear. Pug love truly knows no bounds. If you’re searching for a loyal companion, a Pug is truly a remarkable choice. They tend to form deep, lasting bonds with their humans, often favoring one person or a small circle. Pugs become the heart of the family, offering unwavering love and affection that makes every day brighter.
Books are loved as much, if not even more than pets, and my dear Atom was a constant companion at our Book Cafe stores for all his life. We had 69 stores, and he had visited most of them. He loved the warmth of the bookstores, the lovely people, and the aroma of coffee.
My short trip to Singapore was to spend time with family and see my newborn grandson, Darsh. The baby name Darsh is a masculine name of Sanskrit and Indian origin, meaning "seeing," "observing," or "vision." It is derived from the names Darshan or Darshana and is often associated with the Hindu God, Krishna. Lord Krishna is the God of protection, compassion, and love. He was also called Darsh because he held the power to see all.
Thank you for your incredible patience! I’m excited to be back and ready to dive in with a complete weekly edition for you. Let’s get started!
How we learn, freedom and self-realisation

Key Takeaways
The human brain has evolved over millions of years, with specialised modules for different functions.
Neural plasticity allows humans to learn non-innate skills through explicit instruction and practice.
Schools are designed for teaching "secondary abilities" or non-innate skills, but learning can be made more meaningful and enjoyable.
The story of the Merchant and the Parrot illustrates how attachment to talents and comforts can be a form of imprisonment.
Books of the Week, Saturday, July 5th, 2025
The Professional is someone who possesses the skills and knowledge necessary to do a job, whether it's a top degree from a prestigious university or simply years of on-the-job training. For centuries, we have relied on this definition to help us determine who is capable and who is not, often assuming that the person with the most professional characteristics is the best one for the job. The Professional outlines the explicit and implicit code of conduct. The Professional is a must-read for anyone seeking clarity in an increasingly complex world.
